This full leg sleeve centers around a snake that feels both familiar and unique, combining the symbolism of a traditional serpent with a more aggressive, almost mutant-like interpretation of form. Created for Renan’s client whose intelligence, positivity, and vibrant presence made every session memorable, the project became a natural continuation of a sleeve tattoo completed years earlier. Building upon an already established relationship and level of trust, the composition was designed to wrap the entire leg, allowing the snake to weave through Japanese peonies and a flowing background that connects the entire piece to the anatomy. What makes this tattoo particularly significant within Renan’s portfolio is the contrast between tradition and reinvention. While the flowers and background draw from classic Japanese tattooing, the snake itself challenges convention through its sharp, segmented, and highly stylized appearance. The result is a composition that respects tradition without being confined by it, reflecting both the individuality of the client and Renan’s ongoing pursuit of creating new visual languages through tattooing.
