TATTOOING COLOR ON MELANATED SKIN

A two-day hands-on seminar

Kevin Laroy has been tattooing for nearly 20 years. You might know him from Ink Master, Black Ink Crew, How Far is Tattoo Far, or as a presenter at our 2023 Eden Winter Symposium.

In this seminar, he'll be discussing how he does color tattoos on melanated skin: how to choose the best reference photos for your tattoos, how to approach color theory,  how to create values, and much more. 

Seminar Schedule

Day 1: Presentation, Design, and Tattoo Techniques

  • Check-in will begin at 10:00AM. A light breakfast and coffee will be provided. The seminar will begin promptly at 10:30AM.

  • Kevin will give a lecture/presentation with visual aids outlining his tattoo and art principles, as well as his tattoo techniques.

  • Kevin will do live color realism rose tattoo start-to-finish on a client with melanated skin.

  • Q&A will be open all day to ask any questions you’d like for Kevin to answer.

  • Lunch will be catered.

Day 2: Hands-on Fake Skin and Design

  • Doors will open at 10:00AM. A light breakfast and coffee will be provided.

  • Each student will work through a tattoo designed by Kevin on pre-stenciled fake skin.

  • Throughout the day, Kevin will walk around to each participant to give them live feedback to tattoo exactly how he does.

  • Kevin will also have his own fake skin on the screen for the class to see to demonstrate specific tattoo techniques.

  • Lunch will be catered.

    What we’ll cover

    In this seminar, you’ll learn Kevin’s entire tattoo and design process, including:

  • Color theory

  • Identifying the client’s skin undertones

  • Choosing the color palette and knowing which colors to avoid

  • How to create high contrast and saturation with proper technique

    And anything else you want to learn. Kevin will answer any and all questions you have.

  • A selection of slides from Kevin’s presentation

  • Everything you need to tattoo, except your machine/power supply.

Who This Seminar is Appropriate For

Any tattoo artist can benefit from this seminar. Many of Kevin’s techniques and methods are transferrable to any style.

This seminar is for professional tattoo artists and apprentices only. You must be experienced using a tattoo machine.

The cost of the seminar is $1,500. Payment is required in full to reserve a spot, and it is nonrefundable.
